If you haven't had any experience of boating before - don't panic! From our vast experience with our customers who are new to boating we have compiled this list of common questions and answers that should help you get going in your new sport.

Question: Which type of boat should i choose?

Answer: There are many options to choose from depending on what you want to use it for: Fishing,Water Sports,Weekend Cruising and Family Boating.

Question: New or Used?

Answer: We have an excellent selection of new and used boats to suit your needs. All our used boats are fully serviced by our trained engineers. To view our full range of boats for sale use the links on the left of page.

Question: Are finance packages available?

Answer: Yes we can put together a package for you,just contact one of the team who will be happy to help.

Question: Should I insure my boat?

Question: Do I need to take a driving test?

Answer: No but we recommend that you take the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Powerboat Level 1 & 2. The course covers all aspects of safety and practical knowledge that you will need to be confident and safe on the water.You will also need this to gain your International Certificate of Competence if you wish to use your boat in E.C. waters. Futhermore it can also lower your insurance premium!

Question: Where can I keep my new boat?

Answer: It depends on what type of boat you go for. Most people in Guernsey keep their boats on a berth in one of the Marinas, however jet skis, ribs and smaller boats can be launched from slipways (with the relevant permission). The marinas can generally be accessed 3 hours either side of high water.

Question: How often should I service my engine?

Answer: A marine outboard or inboard engine should be serviced and checked on a yearly basis and at the same time anti-fouling and anode replaced can be carried out.

Don't forget we service all makes of inboard and outboard engines.

Question: Should I have my engine winterized?

Answer: Yes, serious damage can occur if a marine engine is not winterized professionally. Don't forget we will give you free winter storage if your outboard is bought in at the end of the season!

Question: Do I need to have my new boat anti-fouled

Answer: Yes, if your boat is in the water for more than a month at a time. If  your boat/rib is kept in a dry stack and is only in the water during use, it will not need to be anti-fouled.

Question: When buying a second hand boat is a survey required?

Answer: We recommend having a hull and structure survey. In addtion an engine survey can save you a lot of money!
